About Us

In 1997, two Irish carpenters, Michael Shanahan and Gerry McConville, started Clifton Formwork in Melbourne, specialising in formwork services.

The name comes from Clifton Hill, a Melbourne suburb they felt right at home in. Michael and Gerry’s European knowhow and techniques have given the company an edge and it made sense over time to expand the range of quality services that civil construction managers needed.

Our Company

We’re experienced in supporting civil construction projects across Victoria including:

  • Bridgeworks

  • Water treatment plants

We now employ over 200 people – but still consider ourselves a small company. Clifton Formwork proudly supports Indigenous business and Social Enterprise. We’re also dedicated to training the future workforce in our industry, that’s why at least 10% of our staff are apprentices, graduates and cadets.

Our People

We’re a small company employing almost 150 people and would like to keep it that way. You could say that’s because we’ve found our sweet spot in serving the civil construction industry.

Michael Shanahan – Director

He continues to research and bring into action world’s best practice for civil construction. Michael is a keen follower of sports including the Gaelic Athletic Association.

Gerry McConville – Director

Originally a carpenter, who gained civil construction experience in the UK and Australia, Gerry co-founded Clifton Formwork. He has a passion for exploring and adopting new technologies and methods to raise the bar for quality. In his down time, Gerry is a keen cyclist and rugby follower.
